Apart from washing your car as DIY alternative, you can also wax your car it when necessary. However, as always there are some clear do's and don'ts as covered in the previous instalment of this series: How to Wash My Car Tips from Overland Carwash.
In this instalment we cover How to Wax My Car Tips from Overland Carwash. The common misconception about car wax is that it provides that amazing shine. That is only half the truth as the primary purpose of car wax is to provide the cars finish protection. Car wax not only protects the paint job from contaminants but it also provides protection against the elements and the harmful UV light of the sun.

  • Once the car is washed and dried you need to have a choice of wax. There are many different types of wax out there and the task of choosing one is daunting. A general advice is that those with genuine carnauba are often high quality, while "cleaner wax" and "spray wax" can still get the job done and save you some dollars. The good news is that most will work and if you are really unsure, drop by Overland Carwash and will help you pick a car wax.
  • If your cars paint has areas has blemishes or areas that are dull, consider polishing it first as wax will not address those issues. The polishing will remove a slight layer of the cars clear coat by design to even it out get rid of blemishes.
  • When it's time to wax you'd want the temperatures to be somewhere between 55 and 85 if possible. Using a shaded area out of direct sunlight is also recommended if possible.
  • Use a foam applicator that sometimes comes with the wax or a damp sponge to apply a small amount of wax and apply it to a small section of the car at time in a circular motion.
  • When you are done applying the wax, wait for the recommended time according to the wax manufacturers instructions and then start wiping and polishing the car clean from the wax with a microfiber cloth. This is where you will give your car that special shine.
