What is Carnauba Wax?

What is Carnauba Wax?

Ever asked the question: What is Carnauba Wax? At Overland Carwash we believe the best marketing practice is to equip our customers with the knowledge, only then can each person make the right choice for their car, bike, boat and even environment. That is why we post not only about our own products and services but generally what certain products are and why some options are more popular than others.

This time we tackle the question: What is Carnauba Wax? Carnauba wax is a naturally occurring wax produced by carnauba palm trees. These tree are commonly found in parts of Brazil where climate swings between wet tropical to hot an dry. The carnauba palm tree has as such developed a protection where a waxy substance is secreted from its leaves to protect against extreme heat. This is the same wax manufacturers use to develop auto detailing products.
Most carnauba wax used for auto detailing is a blend of the natural occurring wax and other synthetic ones. Since the wax is naturally produced by palm trees that consume carbon dioxie and release oxygen, the wax itself is breathable. This is one of many amazing characteristics that the carnauba wax possess, along with it protecting against oxidation, moisture, and the suns harmful UV-rays. Opting for carnauba wax has also been the long tradition of many auto enthusiasts and collectors as the wax creates richer and sometimes warmer colors.

Just like with most things in life, not everything is super. One of very few drawbacks in using carnauba wax (if you could call it a drawback) is the fact that it does not last as long as synthetic waxes, but when it lasts, it outperforms most competitors.

Hopefully this dense and brief post gave you more insight on what Carnauba wax really is. If you still have any questions and would like to know more about options available, contact the experts at Overland Carwash.

Should I Get a Tire Shine?

Should I Get a Tire Shine?

There are many opinions and some outright myths out in the open about washing wheels and tire dressing overall. At Overland Carwash we often get the question: Should I Get a Tire Shine?
Out of all car parts, tires are arguably exposed to more stress and various elements than other parts. Furthermore, the nature of rubber is that it degrades after a certain time. Many tire manufacturers have in fact recommended "life times" regardless if the mileage is reached or not.
Nevertheless tire dressing makes the wheel clean, glossy, and overall the car much more appealing. However, using the right type of products could actually help your tires from early retirement (note that they can NEVER extend the life of a tire or prevent failure from physical stress). Some products however claim that they can help protect the tire agains the elements, especially the sun. Protection could extent to helping prevent cracking, fading, and hardening of tires.

If you have specific questions about wheel cleaning and tire dressing, make sure to contact Overland Carwash.
